How did Web 2.0 develop in today's society?

  • The term Web 2.0 was coined in 1999 by Darcy DiNucci, a consultant on electronic information design in her article “Fragmented Future” and became closely associated with Tim O’Reilly who used it in a Media Web 2.0 conference in 2004 to describe the future, as he saw it, of the World Wide Web. T

  • he term, seen by many as misleading, stuck. Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the web, labeled the term “a piece of jargon.”

  •  Although the term Web 2.0 implies a new or updated version of the World Wide Web this couldn’t be further from the truth.

  • There were, and have not been, any technical updates to the Web.

What is Web 2.0?

  • Web 2.0 is the term given to describe a second generation of the World Wide Web that is focused on the ability for people to collaborate and share information online.

  • Web 2.0 basically refers to the transition from static HTML Web pages to a more dynamic Web that is more organized and is based on serving Web applications to users.

  • Other improved functionality of Web 2.0 includes open communication with an emphasis on Web-based communities of users, and more open sharing of information.

  • Over time Web 2.0 has been used more as a marketing term than a computer-science-based term. B

  • logs, wikis, and Web services are all seen as components of Web 2.0.

Conclusion

my final choice is to make a 3-d model accompanied with a video showing exactly how the computer transmits messages and the different parts of a computer, even though this task will be qite challenging i feel i will be able to produce a higher standard of work to if i were to make an online game. My reasoning behind this is with the game many different softwares have to be tried ot and to start with i do not really understang programming and stuff.
Materials and Softwares

3-D model:

-video camera
-computer
-movie maker/imovie (movie making software) (?)
-any recyclable materials e.g. boxes, cartons, cans etc
-colors,paints, play dough etc
-labeled diagram of the computer to follow of

game-

-computer
-game making software
Advantages and Disadvantages of my ideas

3-d model:
 advantages- no software required
                    simple, hands-on projects
very good for a group, provides jobs for 2+ people
                    very interesting, looks good

disadvantages- easy to mess up
                        must be creative
                        may come across as boring
                        takes lots of time

Online Game:
 advantages- very cool
if done well everyone will like it
all computer work, no materials needed
simple, if you have the correct software

 disadvantages- confusing for a beginner
                         software costs money
no real work that you can feel just on computer
                         hard
Tech Fair Thoughts

For the tech fair this year I came up with two different ideas, one was to create a detailed 3-D model of a computer, showing the different parts (inside and outside) and perhaps make a video to go along with the model. My second idea was to create an online game.

Peer Review of Digital Portfolio

For my peer review I marked Ashims' wiki. His wiki was very good in my opinion. He included everything that was supposed to be included (a thurogh reflection on each subject, pictures, examplkes etc). On his homepage he gave a very detailed explanation of who he was what he likes, what he dislikes etc. However he forgot to add what he disliked. He could also try improving his grammar and also try making it longer.

He personalized the wiki fairly well by changing font sizes, colours, the font itself and the background colour of the actual wiki. In order to improve he could hav echanged the wiki picture to something more appealing (a cartoon charecteer that reflects on his charecter, for example). He did well on following instructions and completeing the task; 9 reflections of different subjects was completed, he also added at least one picture to each of his subject's pages. Sometimes it was not very clear as to what exactly was his favourite task however apart from that he did very well on his reflections.

For his overall mark I gave him a 5/6, the only things that let him down was not including everything he was supposed to; two things he dislikes, changing the wiki image etc. If I were to mark him without using the rubric I would most likely have given him a 6, this is because from looking through his wiki the first time everything seems perfect, It is only the small details that let him get a 5. Overall the wiki was original, colourful and fun to read.
